- 2 oranges
- 150g sugar
- 70ml water
- 2 egg whites
- Your favorite ice cream
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Cut the oranges in half and if necessary cut off a bit of the bottom, so that the orange is free standing, but don’t cut too much as you will need to fill up the shell with ice cream, so don’t make any holes at the bottom! Carve or cut out the inside of the orange to make a shell (the inside you can cut into smaller pieces and mix it together with the ice cream when you are filling the shell or just make a fresh orange juice). Fill the shell with your filling (ice cream+oranges or just ice cream) and place into freezer for at least 1.5h.
Pour water and 120g of sugar into a saucepan. On a low heat melt the sugar to make syrup. Afterwards whip the egg white with the rest of the sugar until you see soft-foam, then start slowly adding the syrup and whip it until the foam turns rigid.
Take the filled shells out from the freezer. Fill the whipped egg white into a piping bag, decorate the shells and put into the oven.
If you still have something in the piping bag, then you can make nice little cookies next to the orange shells.
Bake everything for 5-8 minutes or until the whipped egg white starts to color brown.
